Impact
As I sat back in my car tonight, I reflected on the positives on the day and the things I could have done or reacted to differently. This has been an attempt at decompression before driving home after work. As many you know, the age-old adage of leaving work at work often doesn't bode well for those of us in healthcare. The lives of those we treat become interwoven in our days, and we find ourselves pausing and wondering how X, Y, or Z is panning out for our patients.

Today, I found myself struggling to find a positive. After a long week, I could hardly pinpoint exactly if what I did was therapeutic, let alone something positive. As I pulled out of the parking lot, it donned on me: Impact. We have impact on these patients and their families. We have impact on lives just as they have impact on ours. We are incredibly blessed to be in a profession that allows us to advocate and impact so many, despite our own attempts to discredit all our work.


I hope that each of you who take a minute to scan this little blurb also takes a minute to pat yourselves on the back. To all of you who drive, endorse, educate, evaluate, encourage, motivate and advocate – May you always have the strength to continue your impact.

Carmen is a Speech Language Pathologist with AdvantageCare Rehabilitation, LLC in the therapy department at Valley View Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. She has an affinity for puns and a passion for horrible "dad" jokes!

Brian Wingard, PTA Advantage  Home Health Services, LLC Feel the Advantage I have been working for Advantage for almost 4 years now as a Physical Therapist Assistant at the Advantage Home Health Services Altoona office. During this time, I have been going to school part-time for Licensed Professional Counseling.  I can honestly say that Advantage Home Health  Services has been very supportive while I’ve been working toward my second degree.  My co-workers and supervisor have been encouraging, and everyone has such a positive attitude.  After I graduate with my Licensed Professional Counseling degree, I have even been encouraged to stay on in the physical therapy field as well as social services at Advantage.
