Kelly McCarty, COTA/L: Chart Audits

Image
Kelly McCarty, COTA/L Home Assessment Coordinator Chart Audits My career with Advantage started in the SNF setting back in 2007. I am a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) in the field and worked full-time int he nursing home setting. As we transitioned to Home Health, I became a treating therapist in the field with managing the OT treatments for continued patient care. As the times changed, going paperless and electronic files, I have started assisting with the chart audit process. The importance of the chart audits is frequently over looked. As the healthcare industry is ever changing, insurance regulations are becoming more stringent. Although, we try to educate the staff on the full effect of something as simple as the wrong frequency is not understood until you see an insurance denial come through, whisking away money. Monetary remediation is only one outcome of an incorrect chart. State compliance is another hot topic. With the importance of state

Mary Beth Gabriel, PT DPT Regional Clinical Director of Therapy One-Third of My Life I am quickly approaching my 10-year anniversary with Advantage. A milestone for me, as I am in my 30s and a third of my life has been dedicated to working with Advantage. My career has been dynamic since day one. I started with the company in 2007, a few months after graduating from Saint Francis, working with AdvantageCare Rehabilitation at Saint Andrews. I had a wonderful mentor who helped me transition into a management position as he was preparing to leave for a new opportunity. You might be asking, what was I thinking? I was only a therapist for a little over a year.. who knows! I love adventure, responsibility and change. My team of 10 therapists at a 131 bed SNF connected to an independent and assisted living center worked together to excel in the rehab community. Soon, I was pregnant and asked to return to a staff therapist after my maternity leave. Advantage, willing to

Anastasia Laird: The Stress of Insurances in Health Care

Anastasia Laird Level II Fieldwork Student Susque-View Home Nursing and Rehabilitation Center The Stress of Insurances in Health Care Most of us went into this profession because we like taking care of others and want to help every individual that comes our way. Unfortunately, working in a health care environment is not so much about the "caring", but rather about making money. Today, the word "health care" is interchangeable with the word "business". Everyone knows that to have a successful business, you have to make a profit. Insurance plays a huge role in the health care system. I remember briefly going over insurance policies, G-Codes, ICD code and CPTs codes but what I learned int he classroom does not compare to the real world. Unfortunately, we didn't discuss rules or different types of minutes each insurance has, which is very crucial when working in health care. During my first day of Level II Fieldwork, we discuss
